“ORC
Study shows Online Gambling up 46 Percent”
Online gambling has enjoyed
a phenomenal rate of growth around the world and a recent
ORC Gambler Track survey shows the United Kingdom is
no exception to the rule. Although gambling figures overall
in the UK have declined, the number of those participating
in online gambling has increased 43 percent from the
previous year. While 60 percent of the country’s residents partake in some form of gambling
activity, it’s not difficult to see why online gambling
operators are flocking to Britain, eager to
expand their customer base.
The ORC study also found that
the more traditional methods of gambling have declined.
Betting in shops, by telephone and in live casinos has
declined since last year’s
study, although the national lottery is still
going strong. Statistics indicate that 95 percent of
adult gamblers still participate in the lottery, a figure
more than half the total number of British adults. The
study also showed that the decline is perhaps tapering
off, with a renewed interest in gambling probably due
to the boom in the online gaming world.
For the purposes of the survey, 4000 adults were polled
on a range of gambling activities such as football pools,
online gambling, lotteries and bingo. The data collected
in November is commonly used in marketing campaigns by
the National Lottery Commission, Camelot, Rank Leisure
and Gala Group.
