“Do Poker competitions lead to Addiction or Strategy Learning?”
It seems that the participation
of twenty five thousand students throughout America,
who took part in the College Poker Championship competition,
proves that these College Poker Championships are becoming
more popular than ever among university students in
the United States. The previous year’s participation
increased by ten thousand more college participants.
A forty one thousand dollar
scholarship is the alluring award awaiting the competition’s winner, and among
the competition’s successive nine finalists a fifty
two thousand dollars pot will be shared. Texas Hold’em,
which is played at the contest, does not need
any participation cost, and an imaginary, pre-decided
sum of money is allotted in each round to each participant.
The College Poker Championship is the hosting company
which can be accessed on its web site where you can follow
the postings, semifinal and final scores.
Next year’s competition is already being planned
by the event’s organizers. However, minor changes
are being made in the finals, as it’s being planned
that the finalists actually face each other in the game.
There’s a good probability that television will
broadcast this final face-to-face competition.
It goes
without saying, that the laxness whereby college students
are occupied with online gambling does not exactly enthuse
everyone. Four thousand five hundred students is the
evaluated number of those who participated in the poker
championships alone, and the public concern is whether
gambling addiction could be the result of such encouraged
gaming. Responding to this worry, Kerry Johnson, a College
Poker Championship spokeswoman, claims that the students
are not encouraged to gamble as a result of competition
participation. She claims that by playing poker
you learn it as a tool for strategy learning. Furthermore,
it’s
popularity in the classroom is proved by many
instances. In addition, the sponsors point out that
no cash payoffs are involved only scholarship prizes
are awarded to the winners.
