“Is Boston Red Sox corrupt by associating with Online Gambling?”
While the hullabaloo erupts over online gambling the
news that Boston Red Sox have contracted an agreement
with Partypoker.com. based in Gibraltar and considered
one of the leading offshore online casinos in the world.
If that’s not enough, the Gibraltar-based company
runs for the fun of it, a main advertiser for Red Sox,
namely, Partypoker.net, an online poker site. At the present,
Partypoker.net is sponsoring a Red Sox versus Yankee fans
poker contest as Parypoker.net happens to be a major sponsor
of Red Sox spring training. The Red Sox owns the NESN
television network which will broadcast the contest. Naturally,
visitors are not permitted to make actual cash bets as
Partypoker.net must hold to the legality of the occasion.
However, simply by providing this amusement site, it does
in fact encourage online poker playing. The world’s
largest poker school is how people describe the site
Partypoker.net.
By attempting to legalize the online gambling industry,
those who criticize the agreement between Boston Red Sox
and Partypoker.net,, state that it’s quite disgusting
as the fans who applaud the Red Sox business empire see
that by combining its name with online gambling it is
to the detriment of the Bay State. A National Coalition
Against Gambling Expansion board member, Carey Theil,
say that it causes concern and makes people wonder when
a corporation such as Red Sox decided to make a contract
with an online gambling company. According to Theil, it
is an act which should not be carried out.
The Democrat for Bridgewater, Representative David Flynn
is in complete agreement and is currently preparing a
bill to prevent online gambling hobbies by gamblers in
the Bay state. According to Flynn, the legal gaming industry
in the state is damaged by online gambling which also
eats up tax money and is uncontrolled. Flynn also remarked
that it was big disappointment for him to see how Rod
Sox has decided to associate itself with the industry
of Internet gambling. Flynn further added that while there
is an attempt to bring down unemployment and salvage and
industry which is so admired, and now they are simply
throwing salt on the wounds.
National Coalition Against Gambling ’s
spokesman Tom Grey, considers that you shouldn’t
combine gambling and professional sports. Take Pete Rose
for example. Furthermore, the field of sports has always
endeavored to maintain a gap between gambling and sports.
However, it’s all about money when you consider
the Red Sox agreement.
Internet gambling continues to burst with popularity
despite all the efforts aimed at stopping its growth. For
example, using the 1960 Wire Act, the United States government
at the federal level has endeavored to stop people participating
in online gambling, and attempts have been made at obstructing
credit card usage and transactions with online companies,
as well as efforts to sue online casino operators – but
all in vain. Furthermore, a lot of states don’t officially
have a prohibition on Internet gambling, for instance, Bay
State does not apply an anti-Internet gambling state law.
