“Gambling Bill Passes in Britain”
A Bill intended to regulate Britain’s gambling industry – both
online and off – has finally been passed, much to the
surprise of many. With the boom in the online gambling industry,
passage of this Bill could not have come at a more propitious
time.
Industry analysts were skeptical
about the chances of the Gambling Bill being passed in
the British Parliament, but at last it has happened. A
commission made up of about 100 investigators will regulate
all of Britain’s gambling
industry – with a particular focus on the online gambling
segment of it. While this commission won’t be able
to regulate online casinos outside Britain, its hands won’t
be completely tied. Anthony Wright, department spokesman,
says they’ll be able to “carry out investigations,
bring about prosecutions, levy fines, and void bets they
consider unfair.” Given the tremendous growth in the
online gambling industry during the past few years, this
new legislation is welcome, as earlier regulations were completely
outmoded and didn’t even take into account the advent
of online gambling. The commission should be up and running
within a short time.
