Sportingbet plc Enjoys Success After Difficult Situation
The United Kingdom company Sportingbet plc was among the companies hardest hit by the passage of anti-gambling legislation in the United States this year. As a result, it was forced to remove itself from the lucrative United States market and earlier this year, to sell off some of its United States involved assets.
Since that time it has been shifting its focus and markets and now will probably meet its projected financial goals for the year even aft having solid off its United States interests.
An industry spokesman has announced that Sportingbet is trading at a level that is in line with market expectations.
With the signing into law of a regulation that makes it a crime to deal with the funding of sports betting accounts, Sportingbet was forced to give up its United States market and to sell off it sports-betting and casino business and poker operations, which it did last October to the Antigua-based Jazette Enterprises Ltd.
According to the Associated Press, there are now actually eight United States states that have legally specifically prohibited Internet gambling, and they are Louisiana, Washington, Nevada, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, South Dakota and Oregon.
