What Was A Spirit Of Pessimism In September Has Now Turned Into A More Upbeat Mood In December

In online gambling, things can change fast, and the impressions of those in top management at Party Gaming seem to be in agreement with that. When CEO Richard Segal took a rather pessimistic outlook on the online poker scene in September, it had a depressing consequence for the share prices of industry public companies.  His opinion was different that week, as was widely reported, in particular by the UK media.

Segal presented a tempting glimpse of things-to-be at Party Gaming, in an interesting interview with Reuters.  This prompted the wire service to write that this was because of the Internet and television, poker explosion in 2005, outside its U.S. homeland, and Richard Segal, PartyGaming’s Chief Executive who sees technology boosting that boom additionally in 2006.

The report follows with a review of 2005, stating that Internet poker has taken a firm hold, which has sparked three big London stock market flotations.  These flotations have generated revenues of around $2 billion and in addition have led to the launching of games and books that are at the top of Christmas lists throughout Europe.

PartyGaming while taking about half of the $2 billion pot, also has big plans for additional growth, according to Reuters. Party Gaming meanwhile is considering acquisitions to allow more players access, ranging from mobile phones to interactive television.

Segal explained in a recent interview at PartyGaming's London headquarters, to Reuters, that the beauty of it all is that they've invented nothing new. According to him, they are putting in people's homes games that have been around for decades.

The owner of Starluck and Casino PartyPoker, saw its value on the market ascend to more than 7 billion pounds ($12.3 million), after a June high-profile 4.6 billion-pound ($8.1 billion) flotation.

PartyGaming plans to initiate its new PartyCasino site in 2006, to run along with its existing Starluck Casino, in addition to two new games.
