Gibraltar Is Requiring Stricter Rules On Accessing Servers, And Controls That Involve Responsible Online Casino Gaming And Ownership

Gibraltar has approved a new law to form a statutory licensing and regulatory structure for online gambling, reports the BBC. It is also reported that this Mediterranean licensing jurisdiction for online casino gaming has already brought fifteen online gaming companies to its territories.

While the existing Gibraltar Regulatory Authority is to function as the Gambling Commissioner, a ministerial-controlled Licensing Authority will be introduced.

According to a new law which was passed this week by the Gibraltar House of Assembly, any computer equipment that is to function in support of online casino gambling must be maintained within premises that are kept secure and free from access by unauthorized personnel.

Listed under the heading of 'Responsible gambling', that law states that any gambling website under license in Gibraltar must contain a direct link to an association devoted to assisting problem gamblers. Each license holder, according to the law, must indicate a named person who is assigned the responsibility for forming responsible gambling policies.  In addition, the law states that individuals who link to the gambling site must be warned that they should not gamble beyond their means.

According to the new regulations, each online website to be used for gambling must display the complete name of the license holder and the address from which his business is carried out, and in addition the site must avoid advertising which may be considered as being false, deceptive or misleading.

In an attempt to curb any acts of money laundering, the new law indicates that if there is any possibility of money laundering, the license holder must inform the Gambling Commissioner within 24 hours.

Another feature of this new law is provisions for its enforcement, and the assignment of investigators, which is also a feature of the new rules.

According to a Gibraltar Government spokesman, the gambling ordinance offers a modern legislative basis for the licensing and regulation of Gibraltar's gambling industry. The Gibraltar government believes that this ensure that their country remains the world's most renowned and most reputable jurisdiction for online casino gambling.
