American Gaming Association CEO Sees Recent Political Changes in Positive Light
Frank Fahrenkopf, the CEO of American Gaming Association has announced that he thinks that now is a good time to determine a way to control and to regulate online gambling.
Fahrenkopf, who is also the president of American Gaming Association, when being interviewed by the news agency Reuters, seemed positive about the prospects of introducing regulations to online gaming. He was also positive about the changes that have been taking place in the political scene in the United States as a result of the mid-term elections.
Fahrenkopf, who is one of the leading gambling executives, sees the newly formed Democratic dominated Congress as one that will most likely install politicians in leading positions of leadership, that are in favor of casino gambling. He also noted that the American Gaming Association is looking at the possibilities of doing a study of the legal aspects of Internet gambling.
Fahrenkopf says that overall he see the change in political balance as being one that is positive. Fahrenkopf was once himself a Republican National Committee chairman. In his interview with Reuters he also noted that in the past educating legislators about the online gaming business has been a major challenge to his industry but that the newly elected legislators are mostly well informed on this subject.
Fahrenkopf mentioned newly elected Nevada Democrat Sen. Harry Reid, as an example of one who knows the online gambling and casino business well since he himself is a former casino regulator.
Fahrenkopf also pointed out that the person expected to be the new Senate Republican leader, Mitch McConnell, is from the "gambling state" of Kentucky.
Fahrenkopf pointed to Mississippi Republican senator, Trent Lott, and noted that his state is covered with casinos along its Gulf coast. He is expected to be the assistant Senate minority leader.
Fahrenkopf mentioned some dramatic changes coming up in the House with Democratic Rep. Charles Rangel of New York Democrat being expected to chair the Ways and Means Committee. Rangel, according to Fahrenkopf, has toured the casinos in Las Vegas several times.
Fahrenkopf points to John Conyers, the House member from Detroit who is expected to head the Judiciary Committee. He says that Conyers has seen in Detroit an example of how casinos can benefit the economy. Conyers, Fahrenkopf says, also attempted to motivate Congress to do a in a study of online gambling.
Another example of a pro gambling Congressman according to Fahrenkopf is Massachusetts Democrat Barney Frank. Frank will probably be chairing the Financial Services Committee, and is known to have a libertarian approach to gambling.
The Gaming Association will probably make its decision in December as to whether or not to pursue legislation demanding an independent study of online gambling.
