Chairman's spot for online gambling veteran
Nigel Payne, who happens to be among the online gambling industry's most knowledgeable and well respected executives, has received the GameAccount position of being a non-executive chairman of the board with special skills in games and network development.
Before this, Payne was Group Chief Executive at Sportingbet.com. By joining the GameAccount board, he is joining with a team of shareholders that features Dermot Desmond and the Smurfit family along with Betfair founder Andrew Black.
Kevin Dale, the GameAccount CEO, has been reported as saying that his company and the rest of the board are very much excited to have Nigel join the company. Dale also mentioned that Payne’s skill and understanding of the industry is among the highest being actually second to that of no one as he adds that GameAccount is looking forward to working closely with him during the coming months.
In the year 2000, when Payne initially joined Sportingbet, he functioned as Group Finance Director. The year after this, in 2001, he was appointed Group Chief Executive. During the following five years up until 2006, he was instrumental in bringing the company through several acquisitions as well as having the company listed on the London Stock Exchange, eventually being replaced by the current CEO, Andrew McIver.
