Yale graduate competes with Starting field of 260
The U.S. Poker Championship at the Trump Taj Mahal casino in Atlantic City was won this week by Alex Jacobs aka "Yahtzem" who kept his well known cool and unshuffled exterior while celebrating his big $878 500 grand prize win.
With this win, the 22 year old Ivy League graduate beat out a starting field of 260 players to win his victory. This major prize brings his total poker earnings to $1 690 000. Before this, the best that he had done in a tournament was second place when he played last April at the World Poker Tour (WPT) Foxwoods Poker Classic Championship event.
It has really been a good year for Jacobs. Last May he completed his studies at Yale, graduating with a degree in economics as well as mathematics, and then he won a very nice $655,000 at Foxwoods.
In order to win out at the U.S. Poker Championship, it was necessary for Jacobs to compete head to head with Jordan Morgan, another up and coming poker pro. Finishing in second place brought Morgan $405,072.
