In order to attain Sportingbet's United States operations Ayers says he was prepared to spend a lot
Online gambling entertainment group Bodog, has started an ambitious trail of acquisitions from its Costa Rican based online gambling organization, by acquiring BetWWTS, which is part of Betcorp. They say this is just the start of a long list of acquisitions for them.
Bodog.com, which is officially called Bowdog.com Entertainment Group, purchased the company’s worldwide infrastructure, including its vast gaming products, its technology, the group's Antigua offices, its international customer base, and all of its licenses. The agreement will be complete once it is approved by the shareholders, and represents yet another step in the overall long-term strategy of Bowdog.com for expanding the presence of its brand throughout the international markets, it was announced recently.
Calvin Ayre, a billionaire in his own right, and the founder of Bodog.com, is reported as saying that the purchase of Betcorp’s U.S.- facing operation BetWWTS, represents a reflection of the current strength of the business as a whole. He sees it as a first of many possible international acquisitions which today are being considered. He also says that his company is in a great position to build upon their current success and strength and to continue to aggressively push toward a greater worldwide expansion into markets throughout Europe and Asia.
Bodog.com also reports that through the acquisition of Betcorp’s worldwide infrastructure the industry will be affected in many ways, by having to deal with it as an international player.
Ayres describes his company’s present activities as being a part of their overall long-term strategy and reflective of the positive news it represents for the industry as a who and for the larger number of existing and potential Bodog.com customers. Ayres says that at times such as these, players will be attracted to the largest, strongest, and most successful companies. He says that they have confidence that the strength of their brand will attract additional players as well.
Ayres is also aware of the increased benefit that such a deal has for the host countries including Antigua and Barbuda, as well as Costa Rica, in as much as Bodog.com will continue to grow along with its foreign operations in these two countries. He maintains that Bodog.com is already employing hundreds of employees in these countries and that its acquisition of the Antiguan offices of Betcorp will mean that a number of jobs rather than being lost, will be saved.
The London the market has read with interest media reports this week that Bodog was interested in acquiring the discarded Sportingbet interests located in the U.S. for a sum considerably more than the one dollar by which they were sold to Jazette Enterprises. It has been reported that Calvin Ayres of Bodog contacted Andy McIver of Sportingbets, in order to announce his company's interest, and that Ayres was ready to talk in the area of millions but that they did not come to any agreement.
