Aussie Poker Player Loses But Still Comes Away With Major Pot
It has been announced that Absolute Poker.com has come up with a record breaking bad beat jackpot. The jackpot which comes to over $821,670 eclipses the previous record bad beat jackpot that was won from the website of Party Poker which was also won in connection with a Texas Hold 'Em hand. The winner of this bad beat jackpot which is comparable with any major progressive slot jackpot is an Australian player and other players in a hand lat Wednesday. The term ‘bad beat’ is a poker term that references a losing hand that has been clearly favored to win. In the majority of cases a poker player, and even a well experienced one, is left totally depressed after having suffered a major loss at what should have been a big win. But since the introduction of these types of bad beat jackpots, bad luck has been turned into good luck.
The way that it works at Absolute Poker is when you are seated at the Bad Beat Jackpot table, if you have four eights or better and lose your hand, you can win the major portion of the Bad Beat Jackpot. This then is what occurred in the case of the Australian on Wednesday.
In order to allow the jackpot to build up, every qualifying hand submits $0.50 to the bad beats pot at the Bad Beat Jackpot tables. In this way it is possible for the jackpot to continue to grow until someone hits a qualifying bad beat. When this occurs then a large portion of the bad beats jackpot is distributed between the bad beat victim and the other participants in the hand.
Most recently a bad beats jackpot occurred on August 29th at 08:43 ET. This is when KADI, who is an online poker player who is Australian, lost a 10-high Straight Flush playing against a King-high Straight Flush. He was playing however, at one of Absolute Poker’s Bad Beat Jackpot tables. This meant that although she had a losing hand, KADI’s was still able to win $267,042.97 in cash. While each of the other losing players won $33 380.37, the actual winner took away $133,521.48.
The jackpot has now been reset and is presently $215,000. Since there is $0.50 being collected from each qualifying hand at those tables that are designated as Bad Beat Jackpot tables, the pot is growing at about $2,000 per hour, according to Absolute Poker executive David Clainer.
