Young Carolinian Wins $1.5 Million Ground Prize
Beginning with an initial playing field of 540 determined and motivated poker players meant that coming up with the ultimate $1.5 million grand prize was never going to be easy. But not in the case of Mark Newhouse, the twenty-one year old who came up with the grand prize at.
Going into the final stretches of the tournament, Newhouse was ahead in chips which definitely helped him deal with a final table that included the likes of Chris Bell, David Sklansky, Blaise Ingoglia, Anthony Argila and Chris McCormack. The heads-up competition at the very end consisted of Newhouse vs. McCormack. McCormack was actually holding the greater number of ships at the time and was the odds up favor to win.
But we cannot forgetting that when playing poker anything in this distinctively fickle game is possible not to mention the volatility, and probably as the result of these factors, Newhouse was successful in fighting his way back into the lead. At one point in the game he doubled his pot and took the overall lead in chips. This was followed by a full house that took care of McCormack. But not to be too concerned since being in second place was also not all that bad, and second place winner McCormack walked off with the consolation prize of $802 895.
And Newhouse didn’t only receive a check for $1.5 mil. He also got the $25,000 buy-in for the World Poker Tour Championships. This is definitely giving him the opportunity at even further fame and winnings.
The large size of the pool of prizes meant that there were several high money winnings at the final table – with Blaise Ingoglia, who was all the way down in sixth place, taking in a prize of $261 901!
