Electronic Gaming Tables to be Tested by New Jersey Control Commission
There is a plan in hand that has been recently approved by the New Jersey Casino Control Commission for testing. According to this eleven Atlantic City casinos will be allowed to go ahead with plans to test electronic poker and roulette tables. This testing represents a controversial plan that if provide successful, could cut down on the required number of human dealers.
Linda M. Kassekert, who is the chairperson of the Casino Control Commission, is reported as saying that she thinks that this initiative will provide yet another original element to the Atlantic City market. She also said that she thanks that the testing and possible success of the initiative is of importance because it will help New Jersey to compete with other states such as Pennsylvania and Delaware that already have it in place. In saying this, Ms. Kassekert was making reference to neighboring states' slot parlors that are giving her state of New Jersey competition through their offerings of electronic blackjack, poker and baccarat tables, which they have already incorporated into their casinos.
Kassekert says that she things that they form an important element of any successful Atlantic City gambling establishment and that therefore they are being offered.
Individuals speaking for the New Jersey Casino Control Commission have also stated that in carrying out this test, the intent is not to totally replace live dealers in Atlantic City, but that it represents rather an attempt to recover slot players from the other neighboring states and to draw in players who think that electronic table games are in fact less threatening than playing with actual live dealers.
The type of approach to be employed in New Jersey will be a little bit different from those that are being offered at slot parlors. These electronic poker tables will have the appearance of real poker tables, including seats for each of the players, but they will offer individual screens by which players can read their cards. In the case of the Roulette tables, there will still be a live dealer along with the roulette wheel, however, wagers and payouts will be electronically made.
At this point however, there is no specific timetable for carrying this out and no casino has actually stepped forward to begin the testing procedures.
