Online gambling, soon to be legal in the United States?
The last Representative, that has changed his take on the matter is Earl Blumenauer. This occurred after a Committee hearing, on the subject of online gambling taxes. After attending the hearing and witnessing the testimonies, the US Representative , officially changed his stance on the issue.
The main issue with the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, that does not sit well with the law makers are the many exemptions, resulting in the fact, that many types of online gambling, were unaffected by the law, while other got hit hard by it. It is Blumenauer's believe that the law should be equal to all concerned, and to do it differently would by hypocritical and unfair.
Frank, is working on a new act, that is designed to replace the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, while it will also supply the foundation for a regulation online gambling industry in the United States. The act is due to be revealed in July, when the details regarding taxes, and fail safes, to prevent gambling by minors, will be disclosed. Once the above has been disclosed, analysts expect more lawmakers to jump on board, and change their stance of the subject. Over time, the issue has been a tough one, that has divided parties internally, but the last economical problems, and budget gaps that appeared as a result has softened up many of the lawmakers that were against, who now look more favorable to regulating online gambling, rather than outlawing it.
Currently democrats hold the power, and this is vital for Frank's plans, in order to get them through, The House and the Senate, however, a theory is floating around that Frank deliberately is holding off until after the elections, so that gambling will not be an issue during the campaigns.
Fact is that legislators have gained much more insight and knowledge regarding the online gambling industry, and particularly the means by which the industry can generate revenue for the government.
Since 2006 the industry has changed much, and technology is much more advanced, so it will be easier to control, then it was four years ago. This fact will play a large role in taking away reservations of many lawmakers regarding issues like gambling addiction, and the prevention of gambling by underage players, as it is now much easier to add safe guards in order to prevent these issues from happening.
Overall, things are starting to look up for online casino gambling in the United States, and while the last economical recession, has proven to have been very damaging to the existing brick and mortal casinos and resort, for online casino gambling, there just may be a positive side effect, that comes from lack of funds in order to fill budgetary gaps.
