With Seventy-Two Competitors, Gambling Man Wins $200,000 Ground Prize

The current event of the Party Poker Open 3 tournament saw former opponents clashing once again in the final heads up competition. It was held recently in London recently....and this time the loser yesterday was today’s winner.

Once again we found the 45 year old former owner of a betting shop Anthony "The Booky" Hardy facing off against his fellow poker pro Ian Woodley. The heads up was a reprise of a prior encounter between these two...but this time with different results. Within the UK, these men are both professional players and last time they clashed in 2005 at the Poker Den 3 tournament, Woodley was the winner.

It was that time that Woodley took the prizes, but this time around it appears that it was Hardy who took home the praises and came out the grand prize winner of $200,000.

In the starting field there were actually 72 players including such redoubtable opposition as Roland De Wolfe, Liz Lieu, Thomas Wahlroos, Juha Helppi, Dave "Devilfish" Ulliott, Ian Frazer, in addition to members of the Hendon Mob. This Party Poker World Open was indeed a tough nut to crack, and as they reached the final table, it looked like Woddley was the man to beat since he was clearly the chipleader and most dominant player, having in his hands clearly 859,000 of the 1.2 million chips that were in play at that time, with only three contestants left.

But the one who came out the clear winner was "The Booky" (as stated on his personalised automobile plates) who won out following a much contested heads up against Woodley including a great deal of table talk  and other asides. Hardy said that he kept telling Ian that he would win as a form of revenge for the time he was beaten by him in the Poker Den a couple years earlier.

Hardy described winning as a dream and points to his persistence rather than his luck as the deciding factor.

Hardy has been playing professional poker for eight years and therefore is no stranger to big tournament wins. This includes two Poker Den shows in one season. Although Woodley came out second he still walked away with a hefty $100,000 second placing prize of.
