The Philippines are clamping down on online gambling operators

In the Cagayan province of the Philippines, operators working according to the laws of the CEZ, Cagayan Export Zone, are eligible to operate or directly possess, or indirectly via a third party, any operations pertinent to tourist activity including gaming casinos in accordance with priorities and norms arranged by the CEZA Cagayan’s Port Irene, which is the single free port lawfully permitted to manage and host internet gambling operations as well as providing offshore firms with authorizations.

Manila state reported recently that they are in favor of the country banning online gambling.

Narciso Santiago, the representative for Alliance for Rural Concerns Party, has submitted a legislative bill for outlawing those operating gambling operations for online use or any other type of interactive computerized facility for placing, receiving, or making bets or wagers; or dispatching, receiving, or inviting info helping in wager or bet placements. If such bets are licensed, have authorization or regulated by relevant legality, the law will not be applicable to such bets wagered on live horse races. On the assumption the bets are reckoned completely lawful, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office lotto also has exemption. Also not headed for a ban are the legal wagers made of virtual sports league games.

In a statement concerning use of the internet by youth, Santiago stated that as minors surf the websites, the potential of minors being trapped into gambling is not low due to the attractive prizes being offered, such as cash, cars, computers and holidays.

Heavy penalties are attached to the new laws. A person violating such a potential law could carry in fines the sum amounting to that of received bets, or four years imprisonment or the two of them together.
