Reality TV Company Bluemoon Sues Bodog
BlueMoon Entertainment, a Los Angeles based reality TV company according to Professional-Poker, is reported as bringing a case against the upcoming Calvin Ayre-Bodog poker reality show "Wild Card Poker", to the LA Superior Court. In the suit the company alleges that the reality show is too close to be accepted, to "Poker Showdown", its own show concept. The news has added interest to the upcoming show, since it comes on the heels of the immense mainstream press hype which has been created for the upcoming show through the raid made by Costa Rican authorities during the show’s wrap party for the filming.
The initial episode of Bodog's show, which will be hosted by Ayre himself, is planned to be shown this week on Fox Sports TV. When a judge turned down an application for an injunction that would suspend the screening all attempts by BlueMoon to stop the show airing failed.
The show Wild Card Poker consists of six episodes and is a reality series about a $500 000 poker tournament. It is intercut with elements of the Costa Rican lifestyle and by the activities of Calvin Ayre, Bodog's top man and billionaire founder.
BlueMoon is a company with a well established record showing it to be a respected producer of reality shows and documentaries that over the past decade, have been seen on many of America's leading TV networks.
The argument seems to have its roots in some form of business relationship existing between the two parties. This is evident because the BlueMoon claims make reference to their expertise contribution of complete project disclosure along with numerous development and proposal materials, including synopsis and product overviews, distribution and marketing breakdowns, episodic outlines, and production schedules with complete analysis that was apparently carried out between May and August in 2005.
The present claim makes reference to a non-disclosure agreement that concerns the content of the Bodog-BlueMoon interaction and attempts to be accessed damages for implied breach of contract, breach of confidence, breach of contract, and misappropriation of ideas.
A Bodog spokesmen is reported as saying that the company has attained legal counsel and will if required to, file counterclaim and defense in Court. However, since it is reported that Bodog hopes to get together with BlueMoon in order to resolve the matter making the need for litigation unnecessary, there is still some hope for a settlement.
