Easter Monday Becomes A Real Payday For Someone

Vincent Melinn was on top of the world this week in Dublin, with in his pocket, a Euro 350, 000 winner's cheque. This was after he was being crowned the present Irish Open Poker champion.

At the Royal Dublin Society, Melinn (54) won out over the 6-player final table, which was shown live on Sky Sports television. The champ who had only played one live tournament before. He is an accountant, and he fought his way through all the way to the ultimate table against a total of 350 players, including a number of leading pros, who attended the event which was sold out and which was sponsored by Paddy Power Poker.
At the final table was from Ireland, Melinn, Brendan Ruane, and Ian Woodley, and Jon Wong from the UK along with Conor Smyth and Paul Daly - both of whom are Irish players.

For Melinn says that he was going more for the title than for the money. He says that it is not about the money for him, but it's more about the title. He says that before this he had only played at one tournament before and that he had gone out in that one with his first hand, but that he knew from very early in this game that he had a chance. He says that he is really proud to have his name on the trophy.

The second place prize of Euro 182,000 was won by Englishman Ian Woodley, who is from South London.

This was the 25th annual Irish Open poker tournament and it took place over the Easter weekend, offering a Euro 1 million guaranteed ground pool, in Dublin, at Jurys Ballsbridge Hotel. The tournament boasts an additional Euro 50,000 in sponsorship cash as well as a Euro 3,200 buy-in fee, and is known to be among one of the richest events on the international poker tour.
