The Online Of The Site Bwin Backs Out Of Turkish Market As New Legislation Comes Out Against Online Gambling

Bwin, the Austrian company that went public, was reported this week by as making the decision to for the time being remove its offerings of online gambling to Turkey. This resulted from the recent passage of additional laws outlawing online gambling.
Bwin released a statement that said that the way that they see this move is that even though the new law seems to prohibit games of chance online, it still makes it possible that an online website might attain, at some date in the future, a license.

Approximately six percent of Bwin’s revenues for gross gaming seems to be derived from Turkey, and this means that their planning out of their business from that country means a reduction in the gross earnings of Euros 15-20 million ($26.3 million) annually, a company spokesperson reports.

Although they are not sure when it will be available, a Bwin official is reported as saying that the company would be ready to acquire a Turkish license as well as they are available.

Karin Klein, the company spokesperson says that the company is not sure when these licenses will be available. She added that the company’s lawyers are presently looking into it.
Throughout the United States and throughout Europe, company that proceed online gambling services have been facing increasingly difficult regulations. This is happening as governments have been reducing Internet gambling in order to protect local customers and as a hedge of protection around their own government-run lotteries.

It was only last year, according to the news service Reuters, that Bwin had to write off the majority of the worth of its U.S. poker website. It had paid out a sum of Euro 500 million only a bit earlier in 2006, after the United States in effect made online Internet gambling illegal, through legislation directed against company that provide online gambling and online casinos online.
