Online Horse Racing Has New Boss
Joe DeFrancis, the Maryland Jockey Club CEO, has been selected for what might shape up to be a controversial appointment – director of electronic operations at the parent company of the Jockey Club, Magna Entertainment.
This opportunity is controversial in that this division is slated to administer all of Magna's several interactive betting channels by means of a new overall company called PariMax...and this could be seen as more hypocracy in light of the fact that while the United States supposedly objects to online gambling based on moral grounds and therefore is seeking to ban it through the World Trade Organization Internet disagreement with Antigua. In the WTO's latest rulings, horse racing set asides have been underscored by which the US must be in compliance by April 3rd.
XpressBet, an online betting phone service, is a part of Parimax; HRTV, a television channel for horse-racing; MagnaBet, which provides online betting in a number of countries; and RaceONTV, a broadcaster of live races from the Magna tracks. Also included is Magna's 30 percent interest in AmTote International, the Hunt Valley-based betting systems company.
