Dates Released For 4th Annual World Poker Classic
Both much excitement and a great deal of hype are being generated with regard to this year's World Poker Tour grand finale. The grand finale is to be hosted in Las Vegas at the Bellagio Hotel Resort and Casino.
April 5th is the day when Bellagio’s 2006 4th Annual Five-Star World Poker Classic begins. It will kicks off with a two-day no-limit hold’em tournament, which will include a seniors event and a super satellite ‘last chance to qualify’ event. The $25,000 championship is scheduled to begin on April 18th. It will commence with a filming of the final table on April 24th.
Throughout the course of the event, One-table qualifiers will be run by day and by night, running into the next day’s tournament.
Director of Poker Operations at Bellagio, Doug Dalton has been quoted as saying that Bellagio is extremely happy to host the WPT World Championship for a fourth successive year, serving as the grand finale of the 5 Star World Poker Classic. He also noted that at every tournament the number of participants grows and that the prize pools continue to set new highs.
Last year’s WPT Championship title will be defended by the returning Tuan Le. Last year’s championship included a bracelet, a trophy, a silver platter and, of naturally, money. To reach the exciting up and down final table, Le outlasted a field of 452 players. Although being severely short-stacked, Le rebounded to survive blinds, bluffs and fate itself, winning $2,856,150. Paul Maxfield, the second place finisher, took home with him, nearly $1.7 million.
This year, the WPT saw over a dozen champions qualified, including Roland De Wolfe, the Grand Prix de Paris winner. Other expected participants include Freddie Deeb; Legends champion, Alex Kahaner; Gavin Smith, the Mirage Poker Showdown winner; Ultimatebet’s Aruba winner, Foxwood’s, Nick Schulman; Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi;Gold Strike’s, Scotty “The Prince” Nguyen; Borgata Poker Open’s Al Ardebili; PokerStars Caribbean Poker Adventure winner, Steve Paul-Ambrose; Bellagio Five Diamond’s Rehne Pedersen; L.A. Poker Classic’s, Alan Goehring; Borgata’s, Bay 101’s Nam Le; and this years to be announcd WPC and Foxwood’s champions.
