Extremely Clever Reasoning Bypasses Legal Obstacles
An extremely clever way for interpreting the poker game was derived this week. This is termed Duplicate Poker. It has the goal of bypassing the debate of whether it is luck or skill that applies when playing poker, that has been connected with the debate over whether or not the game should be legal.
In this new version of the game cards are arranged at each table so that the cards received at each particular seat are identical. This includes identical hole cards, a duplicate flop, as well as a duplicate turn and river.
The point behind all this it to remove any element of 'chance' from the game creating from it a real game of skills. This is derived by looking at the results received for each player and then comparing results achieved by one player with that of a player in the same seat at the different tables having begun their game with the same cards and same chips.
This new approach was demonstrated this week at the Oklahoma State Championships at the Cherokee Casino in Tulsa. Present were both Scotty Nguyen and Linda Johnson, along with Chip Reese and several other pros. Only 100 players were allowed to play at a total of ten players. In fact then, each player was actually only competing against nine other players seated at nine other tables having been dealt the same cards.
While there are several other conventions as well as rules that can be applied here, it seems that the basic concept is a strong argument that could the beginning for an interesting and exciting new angle that can be applied both online and offline to the legal wrangling that is going on over poker playing in those states and countries that are attempting to legislate against online gambling in general.
