Intense Interest Generated By Inaugural Poker Event

On February 15th, at the Henry Fonda Music Box Theatre in Los Angeles, Card Player magazine plans to roll out the red carpet. This will be in honor of the poker industry's inaugural Player of the Year Awards Gala Banquet.

The online gambling group, Bodog.com, is the co-sponsor and exclusive producer of the awards show that will feature superstars from both Hollywood and poker who are gathering for the game's most desired prizes.

At the banquet, the 2005 Poker Player of the Year Award and a number of other awards are being given by Card Player magazine, including Card Player's "Lifetime Achievement Award, that is to be presented.

Everybody Loves Raymond funnyman, deep-voiced Brad Garrett, will be the MC for the event.

Card Player Media Chairman Barry Shulman is being reported as saying that for the first time, the poker world is going to be getting what it justly deserves: an awards banquet that is first class for honoring all the professionals who have helped promote and expand this industry into being a mainstream sport.

He suggests that thanks to his company’s partnership with Bodog, Hollywood is going to not only experience a fantastic award show, but also will receive the chance to associate with the real poker superstars.

Men "The Master" Nguyen has locked up the 2005 Player of the Year award. Nguyen is ranked as being among poker’s most lethal players due to his 16 final tables and $973,620 in earnings.

Eight other awards will be announced at the Awards Banquet on February 15th, in addition to the celebrated Player of the Year award. The best cash game player, most entertaining player, poker's top ambassador, most feared player and most underrated player, best heads-up player, the best no-limit player, best mixed-game player, were voted on by poker's top players.

Favorite overall poker player and top celebrity poker player, two added awards, make up the Card Player's People's Choice Awards. Card Player has narrowed votes to an ultimate nominee list, after weeks of online voting at Card Player's website and thousands of votes made.

Big names like Mike Matusow, Chris Ferguson, Doyle Brunson, Phil Ivey, and Daniel Negreneau make up the final nominees for favorite poker player. And Tobey McGuire,  Gabe Kaplan and Jennifer Tilly represent the finalists for best celebrity player.
