Ambushes and Gunfights in Sunny Costa Rica?
Online sportsbook information site Gambling 911 is reporting a mugging assault on an as yet unidentified online gambling executive in San Pedro, Costa Rica. The victim has been detained in hospital, but details of his identity are being withheld pending communication with his next of kin.
According to 911, the man was severely beaten and left for dead following an attempted robbery on Monday afternoon, when his Landrover was ambushed by three gun toting assailants, resulting in a gunfight with his bodyguards, an indication of the dangerous criminal nature of the Costa Rican environment. 911 says that the victim, who is seriously ill in hospital, is the owner of one of online gambling's largest enterprises. Bodog's Calvin Ayre was been held up in broad daylight while with real estate agents shopped for new properties in Costa Rica. His bodyguard was shot in the shoulder. In another incident a partner in now defunct MVP Sportsbook, had his SUV shot up while in the upmarket Escazu area, and last spring a 911 associate was beaten and robbed after entering a “pirate” cab. He suffered severe injuries to his leg and is due to undergo extensive surgery next month. This is friendly, sunny Costa Rica?
