There Is A Canadian Province Where They Are Having Tournaments Using Unlicensed Texas Hold 'Em Tourneys And Getting Official Attention
About 60 purportedly illegal poker websites in the area of Nova Scotia province have been the concern of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police or the Canadian national police in this Atlantic province. They are carrying out an investigation.
A report recently on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation made clear that the investigation by the Mounties is being directed in particular at poker games that are being played in public houses, even if they are for charity. The investigation is labeling these games as being both unlicensed and unregulated. The Royal Mounted Police has warned that any one found to be involved in the organization of the games will be required to acquire a permit allowing them to run the games or they are in danger of being criminally prosecuted.
It has been made clear that those who are involved in playing the games are not per se being charged as being involved in illegal activity. They may play in the tournaments while those who have organized the tournaments, the individuals, and companies. Are at risk of criminal prosecution. They may also be denied their liquor license or other licenses.
In order to set up and carrying out organized gambling tournaments and poker games, you need the explicit permission of the Nova Scotia liquor and gambling regulator which is a function of the government. This applies to all poker games that occur without of a licensed casino environment, according to the Canadian Mounties. There are also reports of a Royal Canadian Mounted police officer who is investigating complaints linked with private gambling affairs said to be occuring in certain residential neighborhoods.
Those who are supporting these poker tournaments are saying that the laws being enforced by the province need to be clarified more carefully and are saying that the authorities of the province themselves are acting in a confused manner with regard to what is being allowed and not allowed.
