| Running or managing an internet
casino is illegal in the US. Internet casinos can
not have any type of office or servers based in the
US. In keeping with this, most states have made internet
gambling illegal. While most of the legislation on internet
gambling is done at state level, the feds also have
their eyes and ears turned toward online gaming as a
source of racketeering. As such it's understandable
that online casino owners would not want to make themselves
easily identified by the US government. Of course, if
they don't want the feds to know who owns them, how
are you going to find out? And how can you tell if they
are honest or not?
First you need to find yourself an internet casino
that you like the look of, type of games, and software.
Now it's time to do a bit of research before trusting
them with your money. Check the site for company information.
The best places are on the "about us", "information"
and the "FAQ's". Avoid places that don't list
any information about the casino.
If you couldn't find any information on the site, you
can also get information by checking the domain name
ownership. You can find out the registrant of any .com,
.net, .org, .biz. or .info by checking at http://www.whois.sc
. Whois is a web based domain name research service.
Just enter the domain name (name of the site without
the www or com) in the "Search by domain or keyword"
text field and click on "Go!" You will get
a list of options that contain the name of your website.
Find the right one and click on "whois record"
and a window will pop-up. Scroll down the window and
you will have all of the information regarding the owners
of the site, their location, and phone and email information.
This is also good to double check the information listed
on their site. The information on whois and on their
site should match – if it doesn't don't go there.
Doing a basic check that your casino of choice has
a company name and means of contact is the best way
to avoid being ripped off.
